Grants and scholarships are “free money” – although not without strings* attached. The money awarded does not have to be repaid to the funding source. Types of grants typically available include

Remember that funding can have strings attached. Your eligibility for federal aid can be withdrawn if you fall below the minimum course load or have an extremely weak academic performance. Moreover, an “aid-elimination penalty” applies to students convicted of the sale or possession of drugs while receiving federal aid. Review restrictions and allowances with financial aid counselors to determine eligibility, potential loss of funding, and opportunities to re-qualify.
Scholarships are so varied. Some are nationally and internationally granted, and some are offered through individual schools. Some are needs-based and some are merit-based, so ask each school what’s available and check out some of the resources below.
