Hand it Over – That Hand Sanitizer
Infection prevention is essential to staying healthy. Germs are everywhere on campus. If you’re eating right and getting enough sleep, your immune system will be able to ward off the worst, and if you do catch something, you’ll recover much faster. But why risk contamination if you can do something really simple? Hand sanitizers are convenient for zapping bad microbes. Each time you use a public computer or touch other items that have been handled by many other people, such as the phone you share with roommates, squirt a little into your palm and lightly rub over your hands. The FDA recommends using lotions with an alcohol concentration of 60 to 95 per cent.
Your Best Shot – Immunizations – Before you get to campus you’ll be asked for a record of immunizations and which ones you’ll need. To find out how to update them, visit your campus health center. And if you plan to study abroad, you’ll need to know if there are additional recommended vaccines.
