Athletic Scholarships
If you earn one or more athletic scholarships, be aware that you will probably still need to rely on other financial support, because many students and parents have unrealistic expectations of the financial compensation. That being said, a lot of players couldn’t afford college were it not for their scholarships. Scouts often recruit high school students, offering other enticements as well, such as stipends or attractive housing options.
If you don’t have a scholarship, are seeking additional financial support based on your athletic prowess and academic competency, learn about eligibility for scholarships. Ask your coach, your advisor, and your college financial aid office. See our resources below.
As with any renewable scholarship, it’s up to you to maintain a healthy GPA and follow the rules laid down by your athletic department. Otherwise, you may find yourself off the team and out of school.
