Disability Support Services

Students with physical, learning, or cognitive difficulties are usually steered to these services if they’ve been getting help in high school. The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides for legal rights to an education, and colleges must provide reasonable accommodations. Seek the DSS office soon after admission to identify yourself, explain your needs, and inquire about eligibility. Possible assistance may include:

  • Assistive technologies
  • Note-takers and transcription services
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Electronic book files
  • Audio books
  • Accommodated testing, such as extended time or readers
  • Study strategies
  • Recorders
  • Transportation
  • Braille or large-print materials

Your DSS office will appreciate your being as self-sufficient as possible. Here are some resources for learning more about how you can maximize your college experience.
