Intramural & Club Sports
If you’re interesting in one of the sports in the varsity list, but your school doesn’t participate at varsity level, it might do it on the intramural level. Intramural athletics are non-varsity sports whose competition occurs within the college, rather between schools. In other words, team or club members are affiliated with the same school.
What’s appealing to non-traditional students is that age isn’t a barrier; they can participate in several kinds of intramural activities, too. At some schools, intramural teams also accept faculty, staff, and alumni. Some typical intramural sports include:
- Aquatics – Swimming and diving
- Dodgeball – Join a league and leap for joy
- Field Hockey – Speed and agility
- Flag football – A no-tackle version
- Table tennis – AKA ping pong
- Ultimate Disc – Football with a spin
- Walks and runs – Start at 1K and work up the distance
- Volleyball – Leap even more
Check your college website or visit the athletics department to find out what kinds of intramural sports are happening at your school. Ask about how to register, policies, schedules, and maybe even online intramurals.
