Why Volunteer?

Why Should I Volunteer?

Why should you? What are the benefits, besides a big pat on the back? We know that doing good makes us feel good about ourselves. More than giving us a sense of purpose, studies have even shown that the positive emotions we associate with giving can also improve our health.

  • Volunteering, social activism, and service activities always offer valuable and practical experiences. In addition, they give you an opportunity to:
  • Practice critical thinking, mature decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Build character strengths
  • Enlarge your world-view
  • Meet positive role models
  • Become a positive role model
  • Gain valuable leadership experience
  • Observe meaningful outcomes
  • Gain high-quality, long-term relationships
  • Build an impressive co-curricular transcript
  • Find a career area that matches your interests
  • Add great points to your professional résumé
  • Acquire a lifelong appreciation of volunteerism
