
Writing Skills – Some Resources You’ll Really Appreciate
It’s likely that you’ll be required to buy a writing handbook or style manual. It will help you get started with assignments, provide guidelines for organization, grammar, usage, revision and editing strategies, and punctuation and mechanics. They also cover research-based writing, including evaluating sources and documenting research.
Your book may also include examples of student writing. Use your style manual to support your work – don’t let it languish on your bookshelf. And resist the temptation to sell it at the end of the year – you’ll rely on it throughout your college career.
Don’t forget to use the campus resources at your disposal, such as a writing center or writing lab. Visit them well in advance of your assignment due date.
